I first met Joe in 2005 when our Girl Scout troop came to visit and thank him on Veterans Day. I remember he was outside in the driveway when we walked up as one girl in the troop shouted “Joe Germano! Joe Germano!” He was so kind to the girls and he came to look forward to the annual visits from the Girl Scouts on Veterans Day. If he wasn’t out golfing, he would happily welcome the girls into his home. If he was out golfing, he’d leave a display of the little gifts the girls had brought him in previous years. Here are a few photos from those visits: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zn5m1e6VafV9ezmp7
Our church (Larchmont Ave. Church) also began coming to sing Christmas Carols to Joe in December of 2018 and he loved the music and usually had snacks and cider for the singers.
I also have a fond memory of running into Joe at the Nautilus Diner where I was having lunch with Don Freda, another of my favorite veterans and auto shop owners. It was a delight to spend some time with these two special men.
I’m sorry that I can’t make it to his party but will stop by soon to wish him a very Happy 100th Birthday and bring him some cards from the Girl Scouts.

Happy 100th birthday to a true legend. Its been an honor and a privilege to know you and care for you all these years. I’ve always enjoyed catching up with you at your visits and look forward to many more check ups!
You’d never leave the office without saying “hey Doc, take some time off would ya. Play some golf” Words to live by.

I first met Joe 10 years ago when we moved in across the street. He quickly became a special friend. I loved seeing his red Cadillac pull out of the driveway almost every morning as he headed to play golf and over the years loved hearing about his incredible service as a Marine as well as his life story. We loved his “hit and run” visits…..staying just long enough for a quick scotch. I feel lucky to have met Joe and even luckier to call him a friend

I consider myself fortunate to have first met Joe in 2000 when I joined The Bonnie Briar Country Club in Larchmont. He was a big supporter of necessary and somewhat challenging change at the Club, and especially during my term as President, I would regularly receive letters (with a scratch card lottery ticket of course) with advice on what the Board should be doing. He was also a pleasure to play golf with, and Gill and I were fortunate to play at least one tournament with him and Louise as you will see in the picture. Thank you for your service for our country, thank you for your support at the Club, but above all thank you for your friendship.
